Ambassador Syed Masud
Ambassador Syed Masud Mahmood Khundoker, the Rector of the Foreign Service Academy, Bangladesh, is a career diplomat. Prior to his current assignment, he served as Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar.
A member of BCS Foreign Service Cadre belonging to 10th BCS batch (1991), Ambassador Khundoker served in the Ministry in various capacities including Director-General (External Publicity), Director-General (SAARC and BIMSTEC), Deputy Chief of Protocol and Director in the Foreign Secretary’s Office. Among his foreign assignments, he served in Bangladesh Missions in Manila, London and Ottawa. He headed the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata from 2008-2010. At his own initiatives, the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and the Tripura Legislative Assembly of India adopted separate resolutions in favour of Bangla language proposing the language be recognized as one of the official languages of UN in 2010-11. It followed the suit of the similar resolution adopted in the Bangladesh National Assembly (Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad) in 2009.
Ambassador Khundoker represented Bangladesh to numerous international conferences home and abroad. He also attended many high level SAARC-BIMSTEC meetings and SAARC Summits as member of Bangladesh delegation. He chaired the final meetings of BIMSTEC in 2012/13 held in Dhaka on establishing (negotiating terms & privileges) the Association’s headquarters in Bangladesh. He was a member of the Governing Board of the South Asian University from 2011-2013, a university established by SAARC Member States in 2009 in New Delhi, India.
Ambassador Khundoker obtained Bachelor of Arts with Honours and Masters of Arts degrees in English Language and Literature from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh.
Amb. Khundoker visits, on invitation, different government training institutions as Resource Person. He is a life member of Dhaka Officers’ Club and the Bangla Academy, Dhaka.
His interest includes literature especially poetry and he has published one Bangla poetry book titled ‘Akhontho Dube’ Achhi Jolee’. He has also translated Leonardo Da Vinci’s fables in Bangla which has been published both from Dhaka and Kolkata. In addition, he has a number of essays to his credit. His literary articles have also been included in the journal of Rabindra Bharati Vishwavidalaya (Rabindra Bharati University), Kolkata.
Ambassador Khundoker is married and blessed with two sons. In his pastimes, he is an ardent book lover and Rabindra enthusiast.
